New and improved!
1) Using the asterisk after trans. It’s transmisogynistic, racist, and pretty
much pointless. Here’s a cool page with a bunch of links about it.2) Equating “cisphobia” and “heterophobia” to cissexism and hetersexism. “Cisphobia” and “heterophobia” are posts on a blogging website while cissexism and hetersexism are active systems of oppression that ruin the lives of trans, bi, poly, and gay people. They’re not the same thing.
3) Using ‘genderqueer’ and ‘enby’ as blanket terms Genderqueer has the word queer in it, which is a slur, and many non-binary people are uncomfortable with enby. Only refer to someone using these words with their consent, and don’t use them as blanket terms. Non-binary people or NB people work just fine.
And while we’re on that topic, using the word queer as a blanket term for people who are gay, bi, or poly isn’t okay either. It’s still a slur and it still hurts people.
4) Referring to transmisogyny as cissexism/transphobia. Transmisogyny is the intersection between misogyny and cissexism and is a form of oppression only trans women and transfeminine people experience. Referring to it as cissexism/transphobia degenders this oppression which is transmisogynistic since trans women and transfeminine people are the most frequent victims of cissexist hate crimes
5) Saying cis/het people are required to sustain the human race. I’m not even sure why I still have to explain this? Gay people can reproduce, bi people can reproduce, poly people can reproduce, and so can trans people.
6) Equating being cis with self-confidence. Cisgender means your assigned gender and actual gender are the same thing, it doesn’t mean “comfortable in skin” or anything like that.
7) Referring to binarism as “non-binary genders aren’t valid.” Binarism is the erasure of genders from PoC culture by upholding the concept that male and female are the only two genders, white non-binary people cannot and will not experience binarism.
Feel free to add stuff.
